Jewels of the eternal city

With a bit of searching there are some amazing sights in Rome. This includes Santa Maria Maggiore, a large Basilica not too far from Rome’s Termini train station.

While looking serene and peaceful it was a busy place even at 9 am on a weekend. The combination of it being a jubilee year in Rome as well as this being the final resting place for the most recent pope means lots of visitors.

Next up, Chiesa di Sant’Ignazio di Loyola a baroque classic known for its amazing frescoes making a flat roof look like it is extending up to the heavens.

Galeria Borghese sits in an old villa within a park and is certainly a heavy hitter amongst global art galleries. It’s a chance to see a few of Bernini’s finest sculptures but the whole place from floor to ceiling is covered in masterpieces.

The level of detail to carve marble into fine textures is breathtaking
