Museums

On my last few days in Athens I had a chance to go to two great museums. The first was the Museum of Byzantine and Christian Art.

Then on to the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture

The stopping by the Greek Parliament to see the guards and the tomb of the unknown soldier.

And as it happened, on the street in front of Parliament was The Tour of the Hellas – essentially Greece’s version of the Tour de France bike race.

The next day I took a climb up Filopappou Hill for some great views of the city and the Acropolis.

Athens, it was a pleasure getting a front row seat to our shared history as a civilization. Next stop: Albania

It’s a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Louvre. It’s stunning, the largest and one of the most important art galleries in the world. Some 35,000 pieces of art across 780,000 square feet. It hosted 8.7 million visitors in 2024. Thankfully I had a 09:00 am entry and headed for the Richelieu wing, which…

A spontaneous trip to Belgium. A short 25 minute train ride costing 5 euros and I was in the loveliest small city of Tournai, Belgium. It has a hulking Cathedral with five bell towers and some lovely squares with Flemish architecture.

The Haussmann architecture and mansard roofs…feels great to be back in Paris. Though certainly moving from the summer heat of Rome to the fall temperatures of Ile-de-France. Still plenty of work happening post fire at Notre Dame. Starting the day with rain and cold…but I had tickets to the Galerie Dior. Christian Dior is iconic…

Continuing on exploring the grandeur of Turin. While I won’t get to all 14 of the residences from the Royal house of Savoy in the area, I did make out to one of the more opulent palaces and gardens. It was a short train ride away from Porta Susa, the train station I find I…
