Istanbul

It’s great to be back in Istanbul. I can switch from endless churches to endless mosques.

Starting with the Blue Mosque which was being restored when I visited in 2022, so you could glimpse very little under a lot of scaffolding. It is now glowing and beautiful.

No shortage of crowds enjoying it.

Less than a five minute walk away is another beautiful mosque…that I essentially had all to myself.

Rustem Pacha – a favourite of mine for all of the tile work.

Kebab?

After nearly six weeks of travelling, it’s time to head back to Canada and enjoy the oncoming summer.

One of the most recognized sights in Paris and opera houses in the world, the Opera Garnier celebrates 150 years in 2025. This is also the theatre that was the inspiration for Gaston LeRoux’s Phantom of the Opera. I took a guided tour which was excellent. This was an opera house not built for acoustics…

I have come from the north of Italy down to the south, into the heel if you know your geography. I am in Lecce. Nicknamed the Florence of the south, it’s a small city I have been wanting to come to for a while. It has a historical centre full of winding alleys and roads…

It feels great to be back in Rome, though it’s always busy with tourists there is also never a shortage of places to wander and explore. Warning – it’s gonna be churches and more churches.
